“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
Spring has most definitely arrived in Texas. This past Saturday, my family piled into the car and headed west toward Brenham to take pictures in the bluebonnets. It’s become an annual pilgrimage, and not just for the stunning scenery.
Brenham is also home to Blue Bell ice cream. For just $1, you can get a heaping scoop of whatever flavor you like best. It’s pure deliciousness.
As we were eating our ice cream, I happened to glance over at my daughters – both of whom had ordered mint chocolate chip ice cream – and they were sporting green mustaches. They also had assorted bits of grasses in their hair from playing in a huge field of bluebonnets.
I couldn’t resist taking a mental snapshot. They just looked like spring incarnate. A season of new life, longer days, sweet endings. A prelude to the lazy days of summer.
As I reflect on this time of year, I’m grateful. God knew what He was doing when He established the rhythms that mark the passage of time. It’s one more reminder that He is in control and what He has made is good.
Let’s talk: What are your springtime traditions? Do you have a favorite season? If so, which one and why?
